The Gaga Reflex

In case you haven’t seen it yet:

Weird for the sake of being weird?

While I love her skeleton face and whip-worthy ponytail in that fierce tux, I can’t say the same for Gaga’s dancing. It’s never been her strong suit and here, the choreography seems beyond her abilities. Especially since there’s so much screen time devoted to it, you really notice she’s not a trained, skilled dancer.

And I’m not getting into the Madonna copycat debate because it’s been done to death in so very many places.

Twinsies!

I love Madonna, as everyone knows. I don’t love Gaga, but she’s the Madonna of this generation and you can’t blame them kids for not knowing their music history. It’s not like we cared that Madonna ripped off Marilyn, Mae West and gay culture.

Madonna did all that first and is arguably the original female pop star, paving the way for the Britneys, Xtinas, Rihannas and yes, Gagas of this world. (Thanks for that, Madge.) So it’s no wonder that the pastiche of past music stars that Gaga admits she is, most closely resembles Madonna—who, if you remember, was the queen of reinvention .

Anyway, to a 20-year-old, Madonna is more ancient than their mom and embarrassingly dressed like this to the Oscar parties:

Oh, Madge!

So let the young ones have their Gaga… We’ll always have our, um, Lady:

Lady Madonna

(You’ve got to admit, Gaga’s boobies can’t compare!)
