The Gaga Reflex
In case you haven’t seen it yet:
Weird for the sake of being weird?
While I love her skeleton face and whip-worthy ponytail in that fierce tux, I can’t say the same for Gaga’s dancing. It’s never been her strong suit and here, the choreography seems beyond her abilities. Especially since there’s so much screen time devoted to it, you really notice she’s not a trained, skilled dancer.
And I’m not getting into the Madonna copycat debate because it’s been done to death in so very many places.
I love Madonna, as everyone knows. I don’t love Gaga, but she’s the Madonna of this generation and you can’t blame them kids for not knowing their music history. It’s not like we cared that Madonna ripped off Marilyn, Mae West and gay culture.
Madonna did all that first and is arguably the original female pop star, paving the way for the Britneys, Xtinas, Rihannas and yes, Gagas of this world. (Thanks for that, Madge.) So it’s no wonder that the pastiche of past music stars that Gaga admits she is, most closely resembles Madonna—who, if you remember, was the queen of reinvention .
Anyway, to a 20-year-old, Madonna is more ancient than their mom and embarrassingly dressed like this to the Oscar parties:
So let the young ones have their Gaga… We’ll always have our, um, Lady:
(You’ve got to admit, Gaga’s boobies can’t compare!)

I’m glad the youngin’s of today have a likeness to Madonna in Gaga. Having said that, there really is no comparison. Good ‘ole Madge is the ultimate Queen of Pop – poor little Gaga’s a cheap imitation. Don’t get me wrong, I love Gaga’s individuality and creativity but will she have the staying-power of our Madge? Me think not.
Two cents added? Check.
I agree with Renee… In fact even her music is becoming somewhat a bland and monotonous tone… Madonna could REALLY sing!
I dunno if Madonna could really sing…
Madonna had a lot of haters too…
They criticized her for her singing, her dancing, her being over-the-top sexy for the sake of being sexy…
Maybe we are looking in hindsight with our nostalgia-colored glasses…
Gaga does play a mean piano/organ…
Correct me if I’m wrong, didn’t she attend Julliard? (not sure about that one)
As for staying power? At this point in her fame…I think she’ll disappear only if she chooses…but isn’t that true for most artists?
According to Gaga, Madonna gave her the “Queen’s blessing”…
And as Mags rightly pointed out, Madonna did rip off Marilyn, Mae West, etc…
Let the Generation Y’ers have their Gaga…
and not sure why I’m writing in “dot dot dots”…LOL.
yes…and Madonna’s tatas reign supreme! I can’t believe they are real!
Ok, we can do a deal. Check back here in 25 years and we’ll see where Gaga’s at! By then, we might be finding it difficult to get our arthritic, knarled old woman’s hands anywhere near the keyboard keys and we’ll be doing the squinting thing through our ‘nostalgia’ glasses but I’m sure Gaga will be in no-woman’s land and old Madge will still be kicking around LOL. But she’ll probably be in nana-diapers by then – although knowing her, they’ll be sequinned studded.
Is it hard to tell I’m a devoted Madonna fan
